How to Make Accessible Word & PDF Documents (Part 1)
January 26, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm EST
$250.00Self-Paced Learning
Previously, only people with web coding skills could make accessible documents and web content. However, with the advancements in everyday software, now anyone can create and maintain accessible documents! This workshop will expand on participant’s existing knowledge of Microsoft Word and PDF documents to show you how easy it can be to make documents that are accessible.
Accessibility Services Canada has worked together with industry experts to create this comprehensive course, where participants walk away with techniques, tips, and strategies to make accessible Word and PDF documents. This knowledge can be applied to other programs and web content too!
1 in 7 people in Ontario currently have a disability and this is expected to rise to 1 in 5 by 2036 as the population ages. By creating accessible documents, you are including people with disabilities at your organization, whether they be clients, employees, the public, or board members!
This workshop will help you comply to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and to meet standards outside of Canada too, such as Section 508 in the US and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) internationally. Meet theses standards quickly, extend the reach of your organization, and demonstrate a value for inclusiveness and diversity by completing this workshop!
Accessibility Services Canada’s workshops are for everyone. Whether you are new to the notion of accessibility, or are already familiar with the AODA, you’ll learn valuable skills that you can apply across your organization! All you need is access to Microsoft Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat 11, a PC, and a willingness to learn.
Why Does This Matter?
Never before in history, has information been so readily available, easy to create and distribute! Although most of us are aware of basic document set-up and writing skills, many people have difficulty meeting the accessibility requirements under the AODA, particularly those related to Information & Communications Standard. This workshop will give you a well-rounded understanding of how documents can be made accessible while improving your workflow. We all benefit from accessible documents!
Why This Workshop Is Unique:
Accessibility Services Canada has made a name for itself helping non-profit organizations and small businesses in Ontario to understand and comply with the AODA. Unlike large competitors, we understand what organizations are going through from first-hand experience.
You don’t need a large budget or a specialized workforce to make accessible documents. It starts with the individual – with you! By understanding accessibility issues and the strategies to tackle them, your organization can communicate more effectively while complying with legal and moral responsibilities.
